The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, is internationally renowned for its fine art collection that represents world art from pre-dynastic Egypt to 20th-century Europe. Its permanent collection encompasses ancient art, medieval art, rare manuscripts, decorative objects, Asian art, and Old Master paintings. The Walters has an extraordinary collection of rare books, including 900 illuminated manuscripts (ranging from 300 BC to the 19th century), such as a copy of the Archimedes Palimpsest, and 1,250 examples of books printed (not hand-made) before 1501 (also known as incunabula).
Afterward walk around the beautiful historic Mount Vernon Cultural District. Have lunch in a nearby Charles Street restaurant like Ban Thai, Cazbar, Copra, Ixia, or Mick O'Shea's.
