Archaic Greek red-figure vases can be seen at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

When I visited Greece last summer I saw replicas of red- and black-figure vases everywhere. At the time I didn’t know of the intricate work they represented and didn’t appreciate the beauty they evoked.

But I don’t have to go back to Greece to see these vases in person. The Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., has such vases on display. In Baltimore, The Walters Art Museum has stunning examples as well!
